Official U.S. EPA Resources

AERMOD Modelling System References

AERMOD and its supporting processors form the U.S. EPA regulatory air dispersion modelling system distributed through the Support Center for Regulatory Atmospheric Modeling (SCRAM). The official EPA resources below provide access to model executables, source code, documentation, release information, and technical guidance.

DISPERSION MODEL v26135

AERMOD

The U.S. EPA preferred near-field regulatory dispersion model. AERMOD uses planetary boundary-layer turbulence concepts to simulate atmospheric dispersion from surface and elevated emission sources across simple and complex terrain.

METEOROLOGICAL PREPROCESSOR v26135

AERMET

The meteorological preprocessor for AERMOD. AERMET processes surface, upper-air, and site-specific meteorological observations and generates the surface and profile data files required by AERMOD.

TERRAIN PREPROCESSOR v24142

AERMAP

The terrain preprocessor for AERMOD. AERMAP uses digital elevation data to determine receptor elevations and hill-height scale values required for modelling dispersion in complex terrain.

SURFACE CHARACTERISTICS v26135

AERSURFACE

Processes land-cover data to estimate surface roughness length, albedo, and Bowen ratio. These surface characteristics are used by AERMET when calculating boundary-layer parameters for AERMOD meteorological inputs.

BUILDING DOWNWASH v04274

BPIPPRM

The Building Profile Input Program for PRIME calculates building dimensions and downwash parameters used by AERMOD's PRIME algorithms to evaluate the influence of nearby structures on plume dispersion.

AERMOD One and EPA Model Components

AERMOD One is an independent software interface developed by Envitrans® to simplify and integrate the AERMOD modelling workflow, including input preparation, spatial data processing, model execution, results management, and visualisation.

AERMOD One does not modify the underlying EPA model executables or their computational methods. Envitrans licensing applies to the AERMOD One interface, workflow automation, spatial tools, data-management features, and associated proprietary software and support services. The underlying EPA model components and their official documentation remain available directly through U.S. EPA SCRAM.
